I am on vista and went to network and saw a computer named “matthew” I don’t have a computer with this name, and no unidentified computer is connected to my wifi. I have a neighbor named matt, but I don’t know how he could connect. I can’t view his device by clicking on his name because it’s password protected. Who is he? Is it dangerous for him to be connected? How can I remove him?
My wifi DOES have a wpa password

This computer IS connected to your network, and is probably using your internet services for free. If you have a wireless router be sure to secure it with WPA or at least WEP keys under the wireless security settings inside your router. It is very important you do this imediatly. He could be using your internet with your name on it for illegal activity. Plus he could has access to your files on your computers within your network.

The persons computer named matthew has access your router and can therefore use your internet, they could also have access to any other computers on your network. Change all of the passwords on you router and reboot it. This should disconnect anyone that it using it and deny them access to it in future.

    Hello,

If you dont know who this person is, He is living right next you, if he can connect your WI-FI Network.Heres a way to remove him:

Right click with your mouse on my computer, click on Properties.

Then click on the name tab or the button click ‘Remove’

If this doesent help, Please try calling Microsoft (1-800-936-3500)

That is trouble with a capital T. Pedophiles will try to connect to others WIFI in order to download child pornography. Other illicit activity is also conducted this way, causing the police to show up at your door asking you a lot of questions. This is not necessarily the case, but it could be.

Your password has been hacked. Change it immediately. Use a large password with punctuation marks, digits and mixed case and not dictionary words, just a random sequence.

Just because you have a password does not mean your system is secure
there is a 90% chance your WPA Password is in this list

    “blank”
    password
    password1234
    password4321
    123456
    12345
    1234
    109876
    54321
    home
    wifi
    dlink
    netgear
    linksys
    “your name”
    “your house number”
    “your street”
    “your city”

    See how easy that was?
    To secure your system:

    Put in a strong password
    Enable MAC ID Filtering
    Hide your SSID
If you can use a wired connection and turn WIFI off

    Good Luck
