Whenever his Drill Instructor feels like letting him.
they get computer privileges?!?! must be nice! my hubby got NOTHING but a sucky pay phone call once every other week
EDIT: I think there was some miscommunication somewhere. Basic is hard physical and mental prep for them, internet is the last thing they will have
Laptops are not allowed at Boot camp, if he took it then it was packed up (along with his cell phone) and either shipped back to his Home of Record or put in storage until he finishes. There is no computer access so not going to be able to answer your emails, get IMs or anything else. They don’t necessarily get a phone call either depending on how they are doing. you will get a good old fashioned letter in the mail from him as that is the only true way to communicate during Boot camp.
ETA: the website you were looking at is most likely not for Boot camp but for A school when laptops and internet access will be allowed. During Boot they will not have the time for it. Snail mail and phone calls are it. No branch offers computer access during Boot
If the Navy gets internet privileges I’d be really upset. Air Force didn’t let me do anything, I got to call my family once before the final 3rd of training (I had to shoot expert with the M-16 for it). I didn’t even get to send letters until the 3rd week… The Navy might be different but I highly doubt it.

Darlin’, his laptop is in a box on the way back to his parent’s house along with his cell phone. He’ll be sending along his snail-mail address in about a week. You need to utilize that as much as possible. He’ll be able to IM and e-mail when it’s all over in 8-9 weeks.
lol i think this is funny. No branch lets the recruits to use the internet. they want them to be away from the outside world so they can concentrate on training. that’s why they get few phone calls. i know in the navy that everything you bring that is needed for basic gets sent in a box back home. i know this because my fiances box came three weeks ago. and i will be going through this in november for the navy. just keep writing to him and he will call you once he can.
he doesn’t. no laptops are permitted at all. it will be mailed back to his home of record.
he has ZERO access to the internet while in Boot camp. any phone calls must be earned he may NOT keep a cell phone he will ONLY be using the pay phones if allowed.
