I had about 70gb of data recovered from my accidentally formatted partition at a computer store. The total process took less than 30 minutes. The guy who did it for me said it was built on windows vista. Does anyone know the name of the software?

I have about 9 computers networked through a linksys router, Between all of the XPs, it works fine. They all connect to the internet and can share files, and they all see eachother. However, I have a new computer with vista and it is connected to the internet, but it can’t find any other computers on the network. Another computer can see it, but can’t access it.

I have installed three antivirus programs: NOD32 antivirus, Kaspersky internet security, and Avira premium suite running in my computer real time. no issues at all. Also, I have noticed that depending on the threat type each antivirus responds when needed to catch the bad guys. one time could be KIS, another time Avira and another time NOD. The performance of the computer is slightly slowed but not noticeable for people who just surf the net and do basic things like me. At one point i had 5 antivirus programs running real time: Norton 360 v2, and webroot full security suite + the ones I mentioned and no problems at all. Oh, forgot to mention, I also had Outpost pro firewall running.

How i made this happen? Whenever i installed an antivirus, i suspended termporarly the installed one, and added the new one to the execption list. did the same thing for the one that i installed and so one. made sure that at start up for the first time all antiviurs programs were disabled, then made sure each program had been added to each others’s exception lists and then turned them on all them and good to go.

I really wanted to share this, because everywhere i read they say that you cannot run more than one antivirus at once in you computer. And based on my experience it works perfectly with no false positives, no conflicts, added security since a lot of time NOD32 jumps in to protect before KIS and Avira since it has stronger heuristics, and no real noticable impact on computer performance. But definitely i make sure you add them to the exception lists.

I am a total newbie with Linux and I am wanting to dual boot Windows Vista and Linux Mint 7 without harming Vista or having to erase my hard drive.

Could somebody please tell me how to do this if it’s possible.

P.S. I have Vista 32-bit with about 35 Gig free on my hard drive, is that good enough to dual boot

I need someone to explain step by step as if they were explaining this to a 7 year old kid who grew up in a third world country.

Here’s my problem:
I cannot open my 1Tb MyBook WD on my Dell Inspiron 1526 Windows Vista computer. It does not show up under my computer, disk nor device manager, all the USB ports say they’re working, it does not show it is plugged into any of them. It does not even pop up a little bubble in the right corner saying anything is working properly or installing anything. The only place it is even evident my hard drive exists is under Computer(right click)> manage> storage > disk management (snap in). Then I have 4 little lines at the top: under “volume” the first two are blank then the third is, OS (C) and the fourth is Recovery. Under those are 3 boxes with numbers and other mumbo jumbo in them. The first is: Disk O basic 288.23 gb online…THEN THE ONE I WANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:
Disk 1, unknown, 2048.85 gb, NOT INITIALIZED. Then in the white box next to it is reads: 2048.85 gb unallocated. The only thing I can do is right click on either of these, I CANNOT LEFT CLICK.
When I right click IN THE GREY BOX, it gives me 3 out of 4 options: Initialize, Offline (which is faded and i think that means I can’t do) Properties, and Help. If I click in the white box to the right of that it says New Simple Volume, New spanned volume and new stripped volume are faded, properties and help. When I click on “Initialize disk” it says:
“The media is write protected”
It took me 6 hours of reading to be able to open those screens and before today I didn’t know how computers could get much more complex.
HERE’S THE KICKER:
I can take my hard drive, unplug it off my laptop and plug it right into my desktop and guess what…everything works perfect. It comes up under my computer and is 100% accessible.
KICKER NUMBER 2:
It works fine on everyone’s laptop/ desktop except 1 other one where I have the same problem. I’ve tried it on about 24 computers and the only ones that give me trouble is mine and my one friend’s. On every other computer it comes up under my computer.
There is no answers online that I could find and understand…and I don’t have $480 to send to HDD or whatever company said they’d fix it. The hard drive is sitting on my desk blinking every few seconds when it’s plugged into the Dell but as soon as I plug it into the desktop it stays on.

PS I have tried everything I could find. Plugging it in out out in and out in and out, of both the computer and the wall like so many sights say to do. I’ve looked for it under every administrator tools and management and device finders and adding new hardware and programs.

PLEASE HELP ME?? The only computer I really need this thing to work on it isn’t working on!

Remember I need to be talked to like a 7 year old. Step by step instructions and what to click on, otherwise I’ll get lost. And please don’t “answer” with “I’m having the same problem, what do I do” I read through so many blogs about this where everyone was posting “OMG me TOO!” and “ROFL I cant believe this is happening to me!” and there was no answer. Just eight pages of a pity party. Please I really need help!

If computers are that simple, why can’t you walk me through, step by step, the formatting process?
Reboot with the REPAIR CD changed nothing. Can someone help???????????????????????

Ok first download the file from here and unzip it: plunder.com For windows 7 open the folder plug in your psp and go to USB mode. open the root of your psp on your pc. then inside the folder you opened first click and drag the win7 foler into the root of your psp’s folder. For windows vista Mac And Iphone: open the folder U extracted click and drag macpocket into the psp folder. NOT THE ROOT OF IT. then there will be a folder called COMMON if not just create one called “COMMON” and put mac pocket into COMMON. Ok now unplug the psp. To get on ur windows 7 on the PSP go to your internet browser (you dont need internet access) and type: file:/win7/desktop.html# to access your mac on PSP open internet and type: file:/psp/common/macpocket/boot.swf And Thats It!
