I dont believe I know no where near enough at this point to actually repair them but I would like to kinda get a job that has something to do with them. Cant handle retail anymore.

Any idea what kind of positions there are at computer shops besides the actual repair guys?

I am looking for a place where I can be trained to become a computer repair technician, but I have seen colleges that only offer A+ certification. What degree can I get that would be better than an A+??? I would want a bachelors that would be better than an A+, I know big colleges offer computer sciece degrees and Information System degrees, but they have alot to do with C++, Java etc. programming and system management.
I am really only interested in becoming an expert in computer repairs, not in programming or database management.
I live in Chicago, anyone know what school is good for me and what degree or certifications would be good for me to have a successful career??

To work in or own a computer repair shop do I have to go to school long term and get a degree in computer science or can I simply take a computer coarse some where in my area? I’ve taken apart and put together machines before but I don’t know very much about repairs other than replacing a part. I want to be able to fix computers and eventually move on to my own shop.

I’m 17 years old and I am determined to get a job in the computer industry. I will be going to school in the fall to get my A+ certification and I’m really excited about it. I know there are many other certs that are probably better, but for me it’s a huge start. I’m really interested in fixing computers, hardware and software issues. My goal is to become a repair tech for a small local company to just learn and get some experience under my belt. My real interest is security and penetration testing, but that may be something for the future. Right now I just want something that will pay the bills. I was wondering what other training I would need to become a repair technician. I can’t really afford to go to a 4 year college, but I know a degree in computer science would benefit me greatly. Any advice for this would be greatly appreciated.

I have been looking for a while now and can’t seem to find any concrete answers. I looked at TechSkills and New Horizons but have since read many bad reports online. I also considered CBT Direct which offers complete online training but have also read many bad reviews concerning them. I’ve considered going to one of the community colleges in Columbus, OH where I live but I really don’t want to pay for a full Associates Degree in IT. I just want to get some good quality training in A+, Network+, Security+, maybe MCSA, etc. Does anyone have any suggestions. Thanks!

Just wondering what the difference between a computer technician and a computer network technician was… I’d also like to know what computer network techs do and how much they make, thank you.
