I have installed trend micro virus 2007, enabled windows firewall, installed a program to wipe my cache, and encrypt all my files with 256 bit encryption. what else can i do to improve my privacy and security on my computer. I was also wondering if there is a way to protect my wireless network more than i am right now than just with the pass key?
I have a two year old Sony VAIO notebook with windows vista home premium, and a seven year old dell desktop running XP hime SP2.

I often need to carry large amounts of cash on me, keep it in my car, and also keep a lot of money at home. What do other people do in this situation (other than money belts). Is it best to split up the cash into smaller amounts in different spots, put it in a heavy safe (difficult in an apartment) or hide it in a good hiding spot and if so what do you do about the threat of fire? Cashier’s checks, safety deposit boxes, and in my bank account are not viable options. If anyone wonders, I am NOT a drug dealer or any other type of criminal, LOL.

Anytime I launch internet explorer instead of going to my original homepage I get diverted to one of those special alert pages XP computers enjoy. The address bar still shows http://hotmail.com/ but the title of the page is changed to “Insecure Browsing: Navigation on hold- Windows Internet explorer” In the web page itself it has:
“Insecure Internet activity. Threat of virus attack”

“Due to insecure Internet browsing your PC can easily get infected with viruses, worms and trojans without your knowledge, and that can result in revealing your personal information. To get full advanced real-time protection for PC and Internet activity, register your antivirus software.”

“We recommend you to protect your PC now and continue safe Internet browsing.”

Then it has the options of clicking a Green shield with a checkmark that says “Click here to get full advanced real-time protection and continue browsing.” and a red shield with an X that says COntinue to this website unprotected (Not recommended).”

I’ve already got automatic updates on for windows itself, McAfee, and Spy Sweeper. They are all registered(Hence the auto-updates)

Whenever I try ignoring both options and just type in a different address in the address bar the browser automatically closes.

Also, I get a little Security Center Alert box that wants me to block Win32.Brontok. “Keep Blocking” and “Unblock” buttons are disabled and the only button I can pick is “Enable Protection”

I dont understand, I’ve HAD all my security enabled.

I’ve been the victim of false alerts before and when I clicked buttons to get my PC protected I was forced to buy some totally garbage antivirus which later on resulted in me replacing my hard drive because I’m pretty sure instead of downloading an antivirus i downloaded some more crud.

What do you guys think? Doesnt “CLick here to get full advanced real-time protection and continue browsing” sound a little too exstatic? Almost sounds like its advertising one of those bogus antiviruses.

I asked this question the other night but i forgot my sons age. My son is 3 years old i found out that i can’t do a credit report online for him since he is under the age of 13. I was wondering if anyone can help me out on what else to do..

Well I have a son the father doesn’t have any contact with him. The problem i have is that the father has his social security number , he got that information from the hospital. Well before i had my son my ex (the father on my child) had an apartment didn’t pay his bills now his water, lights, gas and telephone bills are all OVERdue he lives with his parents now. I heard that he is getting a place of his own but he wouldn’t be able to get anything under his name since he owes back bills that he still didn’t pay because for just a water bill he owes over $300. I’ve heard from him and his family that he will take my sons social security number and use my sons name and place bills under my child’s name. How can i find out if this is happening and can this happened? What can i do if he does this because i know a old neighbor that did this do their kids that put bills in there names and i am worried that this will happen since there was already a threat that he will do it.

I myself has been going through identity theft someone used my social # for a house mortgage i have contact the police put fraud alerts of everything. Still can’t find no help. I am over 23years old and I STILL can’t get a credit card or any loans. Yes i have bills in my name but i can’t get nothing else like with any type of credit. I contacted so many people and this has been going on since i’ve turned 18years old. So i am very scared that i can’t get no help for my son if this is happening to him.. Please help i would hate to see my son go through this when he gets older since he is only 3 what can i do for him and how can i get some type of credit report for him so that i can see if anyone has used his social security number ?? Thanks please give me any advice, thoughts, and your help..

I have Norton Internet Security 2007 almost expired. So I am considering whether to buy the 2009 ver for another 1 year.
Here’s the real problem. For almost 2 years I used this 2007ver it’s always a headache when norton pop up some stupid alert which I believe, isn’t a ‘threat’ at ALL!
For example, once my VISTA start, and my BroadBand is auto connect with a router, “Security Alert” will pop out, stating ‘Medium Risk’.
Usually, it says some program want to access internet, showing me ‘remote address’, ‘Local Address’, ‘Protocol’, ‘Module’… blah blah blah.

And I notice that in the ‘Module’ the problematic file is always file type ending with .dll.

If you are familiar with norton 2007, you have option to either ‘allow always’ or ‘block this instance(recommended)’.
The problem is, even if I choose ‘allow always’, norton doesn’t remember this OPTION!!!! MY OPTION!.

ANOTHER Simple example, for example, a security alert pop up, program wanting to access, is ‘iexplorer.exe’ and the module ending with ‘ppcrlconfig.dll’.
I am aware that this isn’t a threat so I ‘allow always’! Fine, the ie7 browses fine. BUT! AFTER a while that same stupid pop up occurs again, and I did the same. Over and OVER and OVER!

It’s not just this case. MULTIPLE of such cases with different ‘program’ and ‘module’. It’s driving me insane.

Could someone help me here? how to turn off the stupid useless alert, or at least made the thing remember my option!
if you are trying to stop certain function of the norton. could you please tell me what exactly I am doing? Explain a bit more detail… thanks.
If you are telling to turn off some function, or anything else, pls do advise me what’s going on? Sorry, I am abit crazy, wanting to learn more detail than just following some instructions… Thanks.
