I dont know much about the computer at all actually. I just thought it would be cool to learn how to upgrade computers. I know i want to change the ram to 512 mb, also what else should i replace. Dont tell me to get a new computer cause i want to upgrade the one i have. I just want to learn the basics make an experiment out of this any help would be greatly apreciated. Come on help the youth grow.

ok..when i try to download any program from the internet like….quicktime..i download it but then the window dissapears….before …after a download used to finish downloading the screen would staty there…how do I change it back…..I JUST WANT TO DOWNLOAD SOMETHING AND I WANT THE DOWLOADING SCREEN TO STAY THERE WHEN IT IS COMPLETED…..I DON’T WANT THE SCREEN TO DISSAPEAR…anybody..thank you

Hi, got a question about connecting a miniDV camcorder to a computer.

I wonder what I need to download video from a miniDV camcorder to a laptop? I heard I need some kind of “connector”. What is the name of that thing? Any difference between a laptop and a desktop?

Also, if I have some video on a miniDV tape, how can I get it out to a computer? Thank you..

I have a window network currently in my home, wired and WiFi
I have A linksys gateway after my cable modem. I have several computers using XP Pro; XP home; Win2kPro and Win98. I desire to introduce a Linux system that can interact with the entire network. I can get the internet at current with a Linux system but i can not ‘see’ the other computers. I don’t use the Domain on the home network with windows, but Linux seems to require it. Assistance for this Linux Newbie would be humbly accepted.
Maybe i didn’t explain. You have to enter Domain name and workgroup name. I don’t enter anything on the windows screen for domain name where i do enter a name for the workgroup. In other words i use the blank default with Win2k and XPPro, but on XP Home and 98SE that screen only shows Workgroup name.
I need to know what to put as the Domain for Linux to allow it to interface with my Windows Local Lan.

This is nothing to do with ease of use, nor with IP Domain Name, I am speaking here of the Local Area Net (LAN), not Wide Area Net (WAN).

That includes command lines etc… I looked at a few books but they seemed almost too basic… (how to start your computer)

I also looked at Linux in a nutshell but the reviews seemed to point toward it being more for an advanced user….
OPinion???
I have installed ubuntu, and got on the net and stuff but thats about it…ive downloaded stuff and cant get anything to install .. So i need a book…lol
