I know absolutely nothing about computer programming, although I spend an enormous amount of time using my computer. I want to learn computer programming. So my question is: What would be the most useful programming language to learn, and where is the best place to start learning it? (I have a very slow internet connection, so please, no links to tutorial videos.)

I’ve taken up to Business Calculus. But this was more than four years ago.. It’s hard to believe it’s been that long. I’m 25 and graduated in 2006 when I was 21/22.

I started off as a computer science major, knowing that I loved computers, but got put into a class schedule that made me fail comp sci. I took control of my schedule thereafter.

I am now interested in learning Java on my own with my old book. I just believe that I should retrace math, even if it’s back to algebra.

I had ADHD/Manic Depression/OCD/Social Anxiety Disorder…..And schizophrenia issues have just developed. I received treatment for the first time approximately one year ago after a bout with the most extreme depression imaginable.

It’s been a long road and three psychiatrists, but I’m finally at the point where I can read without much pain. I was a freakin’ psychotic masochist in college. Psychotically driven for sure.

It’s just now that I can see answer to problems easily. I knew nothing about excel and picked it up and had working models of tax returns and how to automatically correct them per IRS rules and regulations. I’m on five Rx and something has drastically changed in my mind, in terms of logic intelligence. I guess the meds lifted the handicap, and all of the willpower I used to stretch out my brain for that diploma sent me beyond the average person.

So, sorry for the life story. But before I delve into my Java book, what area of mathematics is most important.

Algebra for sure, but how can trigonometry, geometry, and calculus apply? I plan on buying used text books and going through them all (since I taught myself at college without relying on professors due to ADHD and dyslexia and only the Lord knows what, but I want to know at which point can I say okay, I’m ready for Java.

I’m sure my schizophrenia and peaceful psychosis could come up with some beautiful things.

I go by the Lord’s motto:

“If you only believe”….”All things are possible to him that believeth”.

Not to turn you comp science type majors off, with my religious beliefs. It’s just that it’s a big part of my life, since I need the Lord to fear, or else there is no other man on the planet to suffice. If you’re good, you got a good chance at going to heaven. All inclusive than all exclusive.

This is scattered. I stop here. Let’s just stick with the math part. ^_^

Not HTML or anything like that because I know basic CSS/HTML. I want the cooler stuff.
Like, I want to learn how to open notepad, type in a code, save it with a certain extension and have my computer follow that command.
I don’t know what kind of programming/code that’s called, but is there any good places with tutorials that could help me?
I have Python and Ubuntu, if that helps.

I am building my first computer! I don’t have enough money to get all the parts I want, all at once, but Christmas IS coming up… So I thought I should get a case.

Antec 300, Antec 900, or Antec 1200? I think the 300 would be good, looks like fine quality for a low price, not huge with alot of extra space that I might not use…

But I am a newbie. ;D

And I want the rig to be a gaming computer. ;D

Ok, so I have yet another question pertaining to computer programming *I’m on a roll!*

I am an absolute beginner at computer programming, and I want to get started THIS SECOND! Lets just say I have an experience level of 0, although that is not true, I want to start at the very beginning. The only experience I have had with programming and writing any type of code is HTML, actionscript, and a little (I mean extremely little) bit of experience with asp.net, c#, and c++ (all from just messing around).

I would really like to begin learning right away, but I don’t have a clue where to start! Not to brag, but I do know a lot about computers…I am a geek…lol. I learned HTML from W3Schools, online tutorials, and by experimental methods, and I learned actionscript strictly from online tutorials, then most of it just came to me. I just cannot seem to find that edge to begin learning how to program in other languages or even which language to begin with!

I downloaded Microsoft’s Visual Studio Express 2008 Edition, which includes Visual C#, Visual Basic, Visual C++, and Visual Web Developer. I don’t know if I made a good move in downloading this software studio, but the programs are very nice, although I don’t know much about actually creating stuff in them!

I read about object oriented programming…what is that?? I also asked a question on here yesterday about the best language to begin to learn. Most said C++ but I thought BASIC was the most “basic” language and the easiest to learn?

I am basically a newbie eager to learn but I need some guidance to get going! Can you recommend a few good *active* online forums, tutorial websites, ebooks, and books for the beginner programmer?

I really appreciate all the help I can get!

I sometimes try to record video from my computer (I’m a newbie) with cam programs such as Hypercam 2 and Camstudio.
I usually try to take videos of videos I like that I cant download, such as flash movies from Newgrounds, but I cant record the sound from the flash movie/video straight from the computer. I have to crank up the volume on my computer and record the sound with the microphone (which produces terrible sound and white noise in the background), which is annoying.
I read the help manuals online, but they say that I need to choose a specific recorder from the “sound record” drop-down menu (“mono” for example). I cant find the specific choice required for computer sound recording, and when I try to do without, I get an error and the sound recorder reverts to the microphone.
This is really annoying, and I dont want to have to sit absolutely still to get meager sound quality. Is there some sort of codec or program I can get to record sound AND video straight from the computer?

I’m planning to study computer repair and softwares to make as my career. i enjoy fixing computers and any other technology based stuff. I didn’t go to college but i still could go if i want to but the thing is that there is this computer program that teaches you about computers and much more about technology, they will help me get a A+ certification. in college i’ll be learning the same thing just paying a **** ton of money. this program is free and after your done they help you find a job. its a 6 month course and when you finish it you can go back for advance training for 1 year. i could become like an IT person or something else. is me going to this program instead of college will make me have a good paying job in the future that i could live off? cause i know that now in the world a lot of people are having problems with technology and need people to fix them. in hospitals machines tend to get messed up and so hospitals need IT people to fix them or any technology problem. now a days technology is a big thing and pretty much the world runs on technology and needs people to fix them when they get messed up or broken. so i think there should be a lot of jobs available for technology stuff and should pay good to make a living right? would i be able to make a lot of money if i take this program and in the future i will be able to pay rent etc. without struggling? please help me out!? advice works too! (i’m 18 by the way

I’m going to try and build a gaming computer, but, me being a newbie with this, I wanted to ask if the stuff I picked is compatible, and if anyone had any suggestions. (If you have any suggestions for a change of part, just make sure it isn’t far from the first part’s price. I’m not looking to spend $100,000 on a computer.) I’m also not looking for a super gaming computer, so I’m not looking for $400 graphics cards, or anything like that. I’m just looking for a pretty good one, that can run things like Fallout 3, TF2, and games like that well at higher video settings.
