Recuva program didn’t find any deleted files after I freshly accidentally deleted a 4GB iso file on an external drive. I caught myself before writing new data to partition. Please advise me which program I can try next that may have better luck with. OS WinXP SP3. Thanks.

My laptop currently is running XP. It got hit with a bad virus and I’m going to wipe the HD clean. Now I’m wondering what I should do. I like using a hacked user created version of XP. It has the bare minimal programs an OS needs and doesn’t come with all the Windows extra added crap.

Or I was considering a distro of Linux. I’ve heard good things about Ubuntu but I’m a Linux noob. I would need a distro that can let me use:

- Photoshop and Illustrator
- Firefox
- VLC
- AIM

So this means I’ll probably need Wine? I heard that a Linux distro + Wine is pretty bad when it comes to system resources. I only have 1gb of RAM on my laptop.

Given my low RAM, the need to run Adobe PS/IL, and Linux newbiness, what is my best choice? I rate my computer skills as intermediate. I know a lot when it comes to Windows. I pick up on new things easy. I’m kinda geeky.

Help?

(Or maybe I can ‘obtain’ Windows 7 for a test drive?)
