Although before 9/11, he was already wanted at the time. So I wonder how come they let him in? I’ve heared before that Osama has been to Malaysia but I thought that was before. Only now I found out it was in 2000. I know there are couple of “smart-heads” here who are allergic to Wikipedia but Wikipedia gives the best coverage on the topic.

I’m not pro CIA and I’m not pro Al-Qaeda, I just want to hear your opinion.

I don’t believe that Malaysia is threatened by terrorism, greater threat to internal security are racial tensions with radical groups existing among the Chinese as well as Malays.
I also don’t think Malaysia is a fertile ground for Al-Qaeda (but it’s a fertile ground for other types of extremism).

Another thing I don’t understand is – WHY THEY CHOSE KL? Isn’t Afghanistan more suitable for that kind of summit?
I agree on the thing that Osama wasn’t behind the attacks. He knew about them, but I guess the mastermind was Mohammad Atta.

And I don’t think that they were discussing 9/11 in KL. I also don’t see Malaysia as a potential target of Al-Qaeda. Maybe JI but not Al-Qaeda.

Another danger for Malaysia’s international reputation are also activities of LTTE-linked people, some of them high-ranking police officers and some SB officers (they’re supposed to be taking care of national security) as well. LTTE are also brutal terrorists who kill civilians. Even worse than Al-Qaeda, but they don’t kill Americans;)

Trustee, Osama had quite a big fan club in Malaysia prior to his arrival.
Osama was not exactly a CIA agent, these are rumours.

He had the same goal as the USA: to break the Soviet forces in Afghanistan. Eventually Soviet defeat in Afghanistan led to the break up of the USSR, so we can say the goal has been achieved.

CIA provided him some financial aid and assistance in training, that’s it.
