I have the following questions on jail
booking/intake. I would appreciate it if someone could explain the process in order step by step.
1. What happens after you are arrested? Will I be taken to the local police department or directly to the county jail?
2. Will I be required to strip search and to shower? What will they make me do during the strip search? Will other inmates be with me when I’m stripped searched? Will I have to delice/delouse when I shower? Will I be supervised when I shower?
3. What kind of jail uniform will I have to wear? What color is it? Will I be able to choose what one I want to wear or no? Is the one-piece jumpsuit extremely humiliating and degrading to wear?
4. Will my mugshot be taken before or after I change into a jail uniform?
5. What are the different types of restraints? What restraints will they put on me? How do they put them on and take them off? Will my security risk/threat level determine the amount of restraints they will put on me? Do they apply them tightly?
6. How long will I spend in my cell everyday?
7. What will happen during the release process? How long does it take?

well it all depends on the state ur in. i know i can tell u about ct.
1. they take u to the local police dept until u are arraigned in court. If you dont make bond than you will be sent to the county jail.
2. you will be strip searched once you get there and shower. they will give you delice shampoo to use and than give you a khaki uniform. you dont get to pick and choose as they give you what they want. however in certain situations you are issued a one piece jumpsuit. depending on facility and bond amount and status
4. ur mugshot is usually taken before you change however depending what facility it can be after. you wont be place into restraints unless your being transported to another facility in which u will wear leg irons, handcuffs and a belly restraint. they are not tight to cut off circulation but not comfortable whatsoever
5. depending on ur status and where u r it depends. sometimes u can be placed in a dorm other times 23 hours in ur cell. all depends on certain things
6. when released they call u down and u bring all ur property. they go through it with u and question you to make sure u have right information than its a waiting game. seems like takes forever
Depends on the crime if you go to local police or straight to jail… Strip search.yes. bend over cough, they do cavity searches..vaginal and anal..shower and delouse.yes..who cares about the jumpsuit are you in Vogue or jail? Mugshot before uniform, if you’re asking about restraints..your clearly crazy. Your’re in jail, why do we care how much time you’re in your cell? Release. talk to your lawyer..he’ll figure it out.
Everything depends on where you are, what county you were arrested in and what city.
My city and county jail, others will vary.
You are originally processed at a station lock up. At the station lockup you are searched (strip searched only in special circumstances with lots of higher up approval) held until officially charged by the county prosecutor and your fingerprints “clear”. You only stay if the charge is serious. Most misdemeanors get bonded out directly from the lockup. You are fingerprinted and photographed at the station lockup.
If going to court (all go to preliminary court before jail) you are turned over to county sheriff deputies in the morning. You are taken away to preliminary court. You are normally in your own clothing. You are taken in group leg irons and individual handcuffs to the court “bull pen”.
There you see your attorney before seeing the judge for a receiving of charges, a probable cause and a bond hearing. If no probable cause is found or a bond you can make is set you are soon let go with a future court date.
If you cannot get or make bond you then will be transported to county jail.
At county receiving you will be processed with new photos and an eye scan taken. You are issued and ID card. You are seen by medical personnel. If you need delousing or medical attention you are sent to the jail hospital where you are treated. As far as delousing goes you get a special shower and are observed and instructed by med personnel. You are searched again (still not a strip search unless something special). You are issued a jumpsuit, orange or gray depending on what is available in your size and slip on gym shoes.
All restraints after initial arrest are of the reusable metal kind.
When going as a group outside the jail complex you have group leg restraints and handcuffs.
If judged a bad escape risk or a danger to others you are cuffed when moving out of your individual cell. Special high security cuffs may be used. Spit hoods may be used as needed, both are rare.
The vast majority do not have individual cells but are kept in pods of about 50 prisoners with rooms and bathrooms around a “day room”. You are fed in the day room with your pod mates. you go out to the “yards” (different yards for different danger of prisoners) with your pod mates. You use the washrooms showers etc as you wish when in your pod. Each pod has one or two officers watching from behind glass.
You spend about 10 enforced hours in the cell (actually a room off the day room) sleep plus 2. You can stay in Your room as long as you want. You all share a collect all only pay phone.
Our county jail is the largest in the US. Once you are released by a judge or your bond is posted it takes between 1 and 4 hours to walk out the release gate. They give you a bus/rapid transit pass as you leave.
