I learned RMAN by going through the first version of this book “Oracle9i RMAN Backup & Recovery”. This book takes the same step-by-step technique for the most recent release, 11g R2.
The use of “RMAN Workshops” to reinforce the lessons learned in the chapters is something I wish EVERY Oracle Press book would do. The chapters related to working with 3rd Party products (Veritas NetBackup, HP Data Protector, and Tivoli Storage Manager) increases the value of this book. This book is BEYOND just the Oracle Documentation.
Get this book learn the fundamentals of RMAN.
If you are a seasoned DBA get this book and learn what is new.

Hi all,
I can recommended this book to all IT staff that responsible for backup/restore operations (Includes DRP).
Also, Oracle DBA’s may find this book interesting and a best practice tool for backup/restore scenarios.
I hope that the next release will add information on other backup solutions, like Symantec Backup Exec 2010, CA BrightStor ARCserve r15 etc.

I have this book for Oracle 10g and use it so much that it is almost worn out. The 11g version is the exact same book with a couple of revisions, I mean the use the exact same jokes in the exact same places. If you are new to RMAN then this book is a must. It has clear step by step directions on how to setup your backups. If you have the 10g version then pass this up unless your 10g book is as worn out as mine.
