I work for Hibbetts Sports Warehouse. Six days ago an employee was fired for harassing a female worker. This individual has a prior history of violence. He’s had numerous confrontations with other workers resulting in threats of violence. When I became aware of his intentions to assault another employee I spoke with the warehouse supervisor. Two bosses above my boss. To try and be concise, I was the last employee to leave the building the day I spoke to him. I told him the story. A woman who works in his office “eye candy” led this individual on for months. Her only intention was to make her boyfriend angry and force a confrontation between the two. When violence guy finally realized she was using him, he was embarrassed that he had been played and decided to attack the boyfriend. The way the supervisor conducted his investigation was he didn’t ask her what was happening. Her friend who worked in the same office had been keeping little gifts and cards that violence guy had been sneaking into the office and placing on her computer. She would just throw them in the trash. He went to the desk pulled out the cards/gifts and asked her about it. Being confronted with the evidence she lied and said he was harassing her. He was fired. The problem I have is this. No one knew I went to the supervisor. We were the only two people in the building. The next day I was late because of a doctor’s visit. When I passed by an employee he said to me “You messed your boy up didn’t you?” He walked off laughing. One of my friends came to warn me that this fool was already looking for me. What happened was the supervisor didn’t tell just security. He told everyone in his office what I told him. He told them I said it. They in turn told other employees in the warehouse who called this fool who called me with death threats! To make matters worse, he didn’t fire eye candy. She asked another employee for this moron’s number telling him she wasn’t responsible for his being fired and he was still her friend. This is not a small company! They have procedures and protocols for these types of situations. Angry I went to them about this. They said because the threats didn’t happen on their property they could not take any action. That I should report this to the police which I did. They said they are not responsible for what happened! I say they are! The supervisor should never have told his subordinates this information. If it had been keep confidential my life would never have been threatned! Is there any legal action I can take?
