Author: I have the following questions on
booking/intake at a county jail. I would appreciate it if someone could explain the process in order step by step. I know that I already have asked this question before I just have not received a decent answer yet. So there is no need to remind me that I already asked this question and no insults please!!!!!
1. What happens after you are arrested? Will I be taken to the local police department or directly to the county jail?
2. Will I be required to strip search and to shower? What will they make me do during the strip search? Will other inmates be with me when I’m stripped searched? Will I have to delice/delouse when I shower? Will I be supervised when I shower?
3. At what point in booking/intake will I shower and change into a jail uniform? Is it the very last thing in the process or no? Do I go directly to my cell from when I get changed or will I have to do other things in my uniform before I go to my cell?
4. What kind of jail uniform will I have to wear? What color is it? Will I be able to choose what kind I want to wear or no? Is the one-piece jumpsuit extremely humiliating and degrading to wear?
5. Will my mugshot be taken before or after I change into a jail uniform?
6. Will I be able to keep my personal property with me in my cell? What items will they issue me in addition to a jail uniform?
7. What are the different types of restraints? What restraints will they put on me? How do they put them on and take them off? Will my security risk/threat level determine the amount of restraints they will put on me? Do they apply them tightly?
8. When will I first appear in court? What will happen? Will I be dressed in a jail jumpsuit and restraints? Is it a public hearing?
9. How long will I spend in my cell everyday?
10. What will happen during the release process? How long does it take?

Around here for me which all places are not like this. What they did for me
First pat down
Then medal detector
Then sat down in booking place and a chick typed my info down
Then finger printed me
Then took my mug shot with my street close on.
then i went in a small room and had to take my close off in front of a officer and spin around in a circle and after that i put my boxers back on and he gave my my orange shirt and pants and flip flops. We got to use are own boxers and socks. For me there was no shower but lot of places have one to kill lice.
Then they gave me my blankets and bed.
After that normaly u sit in a holding cell but i was lucky and went right to my jail place which i was lucky and got put in a dorm with 18 other people. Just a big room with bunch of bunks then the tv/food room and then bathroom connected to it. We also did not have lock down since it was a dorm other than we had to be on are bed by 10pm on week days and by 12 on week ends.
If you are in a cell normally your out all day other than you need to be locked in your cell at bed time till breakfist time.
U can have your own socks and under wear and books in your cell and other things like paper pics penciles but normally they wont let u have any of it at less its in original package and sent to you from teh company. They normally wont accept the stuff if a family member brings it other than socks n under wear but totaly depends on the officer they giv it to some will be stricked asses and others will be nice and bend the rules for u.
And they will ask you what size shirt and pants you want. The single piece jump suits are normally for really fat ppl that dont fit into the other stuff we call them monkey suits.
All jails are not the same like the one i was in but should be basicaly how will be. and its not at all bad as people make it out to be it just sucks cuz no out side world and cant see the people u want to. I actually had fun in jail always talkin n bsing with each other or playing games even thow sucked still. I remember after day 10 i wanted to cry cuz wanted to just see a tree out side at least. and when a new inmate comes in every one gets excited like when a new kid is coming to school.
But try to get in a dorm time will fly by a million times faster. And in dorms a lot of times u can take a shower any time u want while in normal jail spots u only have till like 10am to get your shower in so every ones rushing to get one and some ppl dont get to while in dorm u have the time to take one every day if u want. I used to take showers 4 times a day just to pass the time and was totaly privit cuz each shower had a wall blocking u from peoples vision
1. In most jurisdictions, you will be taken directly to the county jail.
2. Yes, you will be stripped and searched as you dress in the jail uniform. You will probably go directly to your cell after dressing.
3. Shower/Dressing is usually one of the last things in the booking process.
4. Uniforms are either the one piece jumpsuit or the two piece ‘smock’ style jail uniforms. You don’t get to choose, color is based on the facility. Mostly orange. Both uniforms are ‘humiliating’.
5. Photo is usually taken in jail uniform.
6. You are not allowed ANY personal property in booking. Anything you get while in custody will be either purchased from commissary or send to you by relatives/friends. You’ll get toilet paper, toothbrush, toothpaste, sanitary supplies.
7. Handcuffs are always used, sometimes when you go to court, you’ll be shackled at the ankles and a belly chain will be used. They are applied tight enough to restrain you, but not too tight… unless you’re a problem child.
8. Your first appearance will be within 24-72 hours, depending on where you are. You’ll be in restraints and in jail uniform and yes, it’s held in a public courtroom.
9. 23 hours a day in most facilities.
10. Release process… you get released.Several hours to a whole day.
Well when i was in jail a female inmate was also arrested and was taken to county jail
We had to strip search together in front of everybody then they also fingered mine and her anus to see if they were drugs, unfortunately for her they were all male officers that looked very younger than her. Then we were taken for shower and they were 2 female officers supervising us, after shower we had to walk to the cell in jail uniform but because my co-inmate was misbehaving, she was dragged naked, the color of the uniform was black and white but it was only a t-shirt no pants should be worn, well the t-shirts were long enough to cover private parts but ladies had to sweep and mop as punishment so their butts were shown sometimes, they will take all your belongings even under garments and mobiles, you will appear in court 48 hours after being arrested and you’ll be in jail uniform and it will be a public hearing, each cell is locked at 10:00pm everyday so return before 10. If you are locked outside, you will have to sleep in the hospital bed, their is a mixed bathroom and no police men are allowed in there so anything might happen, cause last time one of the inmates had raped a woman of 50 years. They will only release you after 7 in the morning and the process takes like 30 minutes.
