Look through the coarse of history. What kind of incidents have happened in the past 30-40yrs on college campuses? As far back as the University of Texas where the man shot killed bunch of people from an observation tower. You have Columbine, Virginia Tech.

The thing is, none of these things could have been planned, nor 100% prevented, but with correct security protocols you can however minimize fatalities.

Every school practices tornado and fire drills, but few practice such scenarios where their is a gunmen. Technology now days is key in preventing such things from happening, and with technology costs money but who is to say one life isn’t worth it? The schools who dont take the step forward.

So if every school could put atleast one computer in every classroom in which is connected to a network, if such an incident were to occur any student, or faculty could send out an emergency Instant message which over rides everything that everyone else on a computer is doing. It not only allows other faculty or students to see it, but it allows you to communicate 1 on 1 with a 911 dispatcher. ( some might think it is far fetched but it could actually work )

Now if there was an emergency instant message, when the signal is sent, all the exterior and interior doors automatically lock ( with hopes the gunmen is wondering around in the halls ) which will keep the gunmen out, and of coarse I would hope the doors would be reinforced.

Again some would think this is retarded, far fetched, or too expensive, but I assure you the families of the one’s who were killed in Columbine, VA Tech, etc… would approve of any effort to reduce fatalities.
