My grandmother brought home, from work, a Dell Dimension computer running Windows XP and we turned it on and she tried to type in her password it said domain unavailable. (I figured.) Is there any way to take this computer off the network?

It should have an option for a local login. Try using a local Administrator login.
Then you can go the Contol Panel and Users and make a new user for her.

But do not expect easy access to any files she has stored under her current Username.

If there is no Administrator Username that she can log on to then you will have to either take it back to her workplace for the Server Administrator to make her User a local user rather than a Domain User.

Or you will have to completely reinstall Windows.
