I have an old computer which is too old to run on the network anymore. However I would like to run some very old software one it which doesn’t need a network so want it to revert to a standalone one. Unfortunately I don’t have a recovery disk. Is there anyway to do it manually?

Unplug the network cable.
unplug it from the network.
Disable the network interface driver so the system does not hang waiting for the network card to become available – and disconnect the network cable from the unit.
Disabling the network interface driver should speed up the bootup of the computer as it will not wait the 30 – 60 seconds for the network to become active.

If you’re actual question is: how do I take the computer off the domain (disable login at startup) you have two options. When you login, there should be a drop down list with your network listed, and an option that says ” ************(this computer).” You can always drop down to that option and just login to that computer, effectively not being on the network.
Alternatively, if you Admin access for your network, from “My Computer” –>”Properties”—->”Computer Name” you can access your options to drop the computer off the Domain altogether. This would stop the computer from looking for that domain for group policies and such at start-up.
If the computer doesn’t require internet access, which I cannot imagine being the case, you can take out the network card, which will force the computer into some reconfigurations at the risk of it hanging on start-up. Unplugging the network cable could have the same effect if it gets caught up looking for a server during startup.
This is all assuming a pc running Windows 2000/XP. Things could be slightly different for different versions of Windows or different OS/computer platforms, but the basics are the same. You most likely want to go with one of the first options.
Hope this helps!!
