My friend said that since my computer network isn’t protected, anyone can access my network. Does anyone know how to protect your computer network?
I have DSL (internet) and it’s wired, but we had to install software on our computers to get connected to it.

Go here and follow the instructions or anyone in range will be able to hijack your connection.

Enable the WPA security on your router.

set a password, or use a http proxy to not allow anyone else in. setting up a pass word is easy and effective, when choosing a password, chose something hard, more than 7 characters, and at least 3 should be numbers. don’t forget to WRITE IT DOWN

pending whether it is wireless or ethernet cable. If it is wireless then there should be so protection in your router, so you need to activate it. 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 will get you into the router then “admin” is the default user name ad “password” is the password, go through all the menu’s and check. If you have an install cd or manual read or check those. If you have ethernet connections your friend is tugging your leg. Even wireless would have to have a teriffic long range for some on to access it.

if i were to send you an email, and you were to open it and run the attached file…. i would have complete access to your computer whenever I wanted it ( assuming you left it on of course)

to protect yourself, you have to be come security minded. Running windows is not security minded at all.

there are more ways than one to crack open a network
