You should probably buy a laptop that is in good shape but is also at a good price. Maybe buying a used one that already has these features.

Best Buy and Staples usually have a different laptop every week in the 500-600 dollar range. They are usually pretty decent computers and they are made by many different people. One week there was a Compaq the next week there was an Acer. I would check one of those places.

If that’s all you want to do, any current laptop will meet those needs.

Buy a good make if you can afford it IF you’re using it to travel with… and if you’re never going to move it consider a desktop instead, it’s cheaper and more updatable.

In the UK from £299 upwards. Reckon on paying £500+ for a Toshiba, Sony, HP/Compaq etc.

You should be able to get by with a basic no frill notebook. Cost anywere from $600 to $1000.

If you like convertibles, look at Gateways C-140 for less than a grand. It can do notebook and flip around to be a tablet pc. With the new Santa Rosa chip-set and the Wacom tablet pen. It will fill your needs both at home and at the office.

the people in your office must be having laptops
just pick one of them and paint it in red and write your name over it and when they come to you to claim it, just say to them that it is your t-shirt
you can even wear it if its slim
thats why they call it the lapTOP

Its always better to go with the big names and to buy it directly from their websites or reputable retailers.
You want a good warrantee, good return policy, good support if something breaks or stop working.

Dell,HP are good options Gateway is a maybe because they been kinda quite lately.

lenovo/ibm would be nice for you, they having a nice sell right about now. But their support might be shady.

You basically got to reseach and cross reference your choices. Its always good to search laptop forums also to see what other people are buying and their experiences.

Even though you are not going to do much you shouldn’t buy junk or out dated stuff. You want Vista, pentium core 2 duo, good battery life, DVD burner, you want a bright screen, 80g + harddrive and respectable sound and graphics and a nice software bundle.

Honestly for what you want to do, you shouldn’t pay near $1000 after tax.
