    Open the case, read motherboard information, check on internet what it support and find another.

    Make sure that the mother board you will buy will compatible with the previous specs you have, by memory, processor (CHIP), video card (this usually come with the board also. But my advice is if think your previous board is fast, its better to buy the same specs as it has, if not just only try to buy with the higher FSB (Front Side Bus) speed. and capable of having multiple RAM access.

    you have not mentioned any detail regarding your system configuration. it is very hard to help you in that case. kindly mention what processor you were using, or open the cabinet casing and note down the motherboards specification and find it from the net or from some stores near by.

    the specifications on your mother board would be something like 810e or 845GV or 915 or 865etc.

    Its a while since I worked on Compaqs but they use a non standard case / power supply design which means you can only repair them with a Compaq motherboard.

    Suggest you contact Compaq to see if they can supply you with the replacement board or put you in touch with one of their spares agents.
