Just opened up the package, put in the install disc and got a rather lovely surprise: Rockstar and Take 2 Interactive deemed us worthy of bestowing upon our computers SecuROM. I haven’t played the game yet, and am deeply disturbed by the fact that Amazon did not inform buyers of the DRM bloatware strewn in GTA:EFLC. I have yet to decide if I will keep the product defected with this intrusive DRM.

Also, those of you who have played GTA4 on PC will already be aware of this, but EFLC also requires you have a Windows Live account, just like in GTA 4. It just amazes me that Rockstar continues to punish paying customers.

  • After a long wait GTA IV: Episodes from Liberty City is finally on the PS3. I own GTA IV on Xbox 360 and have play both episodes on that console. I bought this version so I could compare the 360 version to the PS3 version; Both versions are terrific. However, the graphics on the 360 looks slightly better; the graphics on the PS3 version are soft and color isn’t quite as natural, but the difference is hardly noticeable. Also, I prefer the 360 controller to the PS3 controller. The controls are identical on both systems, but the 360 controller is more ergonomic. In short: if you have both consoles then buy the 360 version, but if not you can’t go wrong by picking up a copy of the PS3 version. Both The Lost and the Damned and the Ballad of Gay Tony improve on an already great game by adding all new story-lines, weapons, vehicles and more, but without the need to own the original GTA IV game. The Lost and the Damned is unique for a GTA game because you don’t start off as a nobody and have to work your way up, instead you’re Johnny Klebitz, the VP of a biker gang called The Lost Motorcycle Club. Some nice improvements to this game are mid-mission checkpoints, so now if you die halfway through a mission you no longer have to redo the entire thing. This does make the game easier and thus go by faster, but it keeps you in the middle of the action. There’s also quite a few new tracks on the radio stations to go along with the rougher biker gang theme. Overall I thought this would have been on par with GTA IV if only the storyline was longer; you’ll be surprised how fast you can fly though this game. The second game included is The Ballad of Gay Tony. Let me first start off by saying this so there’s no confusion: the character that you play as is not gay, not that there’s anything wrong with that. Instead, you are Luis Lopez, a business associate and bodyguard to one of the biggest club owners in Liberty City, “Gay” Tony Prince AKA Gay Tony. Like The Lost and the Damned, there are some new elements to this game besides a new storyline. Weapons and vehicles have been updated along with the radio stations. In the game you can now use parachutes, which play important roles in some of the missions. Length wise its about the same as The Lost; nowhere near as long as GTA IV. If you enjoyed playing GTA IV then Episodes from Liberty City should not be missed!
