I’ve tried contacting Compaq/HP with no results and searched their website, also to no avail. Does anyone know how I find out what the right sound card is for my computer [a Compaq EVO D510 S (slim form factor)]? I have Windows XP operating system. Also, is it tricky to install?
any help appreciated!
thanks, Marshall

Any sound card should work as long as its newer. Why is the reason you need a new one? IS your old one broke or not working it could jsut be a software problem. If you can not find one for a small form factor crative makes one and they make and exteranl one that plusinto usb
click on the start button on your task bar and click on RUN and then type dxdiag. if it asks you any questions just say yes, then when the window opens click on sound you should see the name of the driver for your sound card
Well all you need is a PCI sound card, there is no right or wrong card in this case. Check out ebay for a sound blaster audigy with 5.1 dolby(7.1 is available but more expensive), I got mine for about 40 dollars. To install it simply insert it into any available PCI slot, secure it to the back of the case, then start up your system (leaving the case open)! Let windows detect it then install your drivers. I normally leave the case open if a problem arises like the card isn’t seated properly. Here’s a link to ebay for some cards:

Here’s the one I just bought, works great!

the link in sources points to the driver you need.
just download and double click to install.
not tricky at all.
Hp’s site is flakey though.
