These are two past paper questions which I noticed that they keep on repeating in most of exams!
I am having trouble with answering them, so I would appreciate any sort of help!
1. Cache memory and RAM are always, in current PC, located between CPU and secondary storage to act as intermediate memories during data transfer. Is it possible, technically, for the PC to perform the required users’ tasks without the intermediate memories such as
cache and RAM? Justify your answer and explain the pros and cons of eradicating the intermediate memories.
2. The stream of address 1,2,1,3,4,5,3,6,7,2,1,7,8,3 is to be entered, serially, into the cache that can only hold 3 addresses at a time. Using FIFO and LRU replacement policies; show the status of the cache, indicate hits if any, as the addresses are entered into it.
