So I don’t know how to do my taxes. We are offered assistance if we go to the IRS building. They will do it for us if we make under a certain income. On-line it said that they closed at 5:30. My work schedule is pretty much the IRS’s hours except i get off at 7. I had to request to leave early so that I could take care of business.
I arrive at the IRS at 5:07 and they refuse to help me because they “close in 15 minutes” and I waited till the last minute. I insisted that I spoke with a manager. The guy receptionist left and came back 5 min later saying that the manager said that they wouldn’t do it. He said I had to request an extension. So he gave me the form and I take it over and read it before filling it out. I notice that You still get penalized when you file an extension. Now becoming a matter of principle, I go back and explain that I don’t want to file the extension and that I wanted to speak to the manager. It’s now 5:40 after repeating the same things back and forth the receptionist has security escort me out of the suite.
I stand at the glass and then ask for something in writing stating that I arrived at 5:07 and I was refused service. The security guard then proceeds with his threats through the window such as “if you still out there when I get out there bad things are gonna happen so I suggest you leave.” to all his threats I respond with I refuse until I get that document OR i get my taxes done. One of the officials sees me standing by the glass door with tax papers in my hand and she tells me that they are closed and that it is too late to file. I respond, telling her “I arrived at 5:10.” She then proceeded in the tone of, well if that was true then you would have been taken care of. I flip. I start off “the receptionist is my witness, I was here.” the security guard then escorts me down the elevator then I continue to argue with him. He goes back up then I leave pissed and enraged.
If this were a type of thing where I could just take my business elsewhere I would do just that, but you HAVE to pay taxes. If you are an entity that takes money from me against my will, the least you can do is respect your own hours of operation.
My question. What legal action can I take with this being a federal government facility? (I’ll say it again, It’s now about principle.)
Ok to Ted. I WORK THE SAME HOURS THAT THE IRS DOES. Just in case the concept is too complex for your little head, It is impossible for me to split my body into two pieces to go to work and go to the IRS building at the same time. Also note that this was the first year my parents didn’t claim me. I planned on filing in Feb during vacation but my parents didn’t know if they would be able to claim me so I didn’t want their application to be rejected because of my application having already been sent in with me claiming myself.
I swear, If anybody else responds to comment that I should have done my taxes sooner, you better be on a proxy because I will push you off the internet if not.

Hello, I am hoping that somebody can help me with identifying my political ideologies. I’m very political, and tend to describe myself as right-wing; of course, this term has so many subsets to it that I am looking for something more precise.
Essentially, I am economically very right wing: minimal government intervention; pro-corporation; pro-big business; VERY STRONGLY against labor unions; against government bailouts, etc. Basically, CAPITALISM ROCKS..it is the best thing out there, and ultimately we need to appreciate the the wealthy people in the USA are the big contributers and should stop being trashed …I believe in the American dream and the success that comes with hard work.
Along these lines, I am also (ideologically) against gov’t providing welfare and assistance, though I’m intelligent enough to recognize that is impossible to eliminate it completely. Ultimately, however, I don’t believe in the state being responsible for running any type of charity or providing social security, etc. That can all be done on a privatized level if people want. NOT the job of the government to fiscally provide for its people. Essentially, the rich pay far too much tax, and there are way too many non-contributors in the country.
In contrast with my economic views, however, I consider myself socially liberal — to a certain degree. Ultimately, I am not a very religious person, and I don’t believe in the having the church influence the state. Stem cell research is great, abortion..i’m not too sure, but I lean towards pro-choice especially in the first trimester (I’m flexible on the issue though). Gay marriage: even though I PERSONALLY believe that marriage is between a man and a woman, I don’t think it’s the governement’s job (espec at the Federal level) to restrict this…I mean, if they want to get married, they pay taxes and it means a lot to them, so I don’t see what the big deal is..it’s not hurting me. I’m very liberal on porn, strip clubs, etc. This, I believe, defines how I view things socially — again, not really the government’s job to decide what is moral from that sense. Groups like the Parents Television Council that bitch about TV shows that badly influence our children, etc….fuck them — they probably bother me more than any other group out there. If you don’t want your kids to watch the stuff, then control them yourselves. Let people watch the TV they want.
So, it appears that socially I am a libertarian. However, I still feel a sense of pro-Western ideology that most Republicans feel, even though I tend to distance myself from the religion issue. For instance, the big “melting pot” that is criticized..I actually like it; I mean, if you want to immigrate to our country, than you should definitly be willing to adopt to our ways. So really, I don’t mind immigrants — as long as they are semi-educated, they work, they contribute with tax, etc. Illegal immigration is a big problem IMO. And one of the biggest issues that pisses me off are all these exceptions for religions, disabilities, etc. E.g., not having to wear the uniform for your job because it goes against your religion or some bullshit. OR, the federal governement telling airlines that they cannot charge for two seats when an obese person takes up two seats!! Like that is total government intervention, and removes all personal responsibility from the person who is fat in the first place.
Finally, I am a little torn on the foreign intervention/military thing. I mean, looking back at Vietnam, etc. where the US wanted to go stop the spread of communism, etc. Basically, I see it as this..if you are going somewhere just to help the other country, then you are wasting your time. it’s not the responsibility of the US, ultimately, unless it affects us. (sounds selfish, I know). So, for instance, if the threat of communism seems very imminent as though it could come to the US, then that could be a justification for invading a country. Invading a country just to help spread the Western ideal and prevent the people from suffering from communism or w/e is a waste of time…not our problem to deal with.
I GREATLY APOLOGIZE for spendign so long rambling on…I’m very passionate though, and would love some help with how you would classify me, etc. Obviously I lean towards the libertarian Republicans, but does somebody have a specific political ideology (e.g., paleocon, neocon, etc.) that would define me. I mention paleocon because I see myself this way..but they are way too socially conservative for me. Also, any particular politicians that I could identify with??
THANK YOU SO MUCH! 10 pts for best answer, of course! ![]()
sorry, forgot to mention Pro-death penalty. overall, I am huge on big punishments for serious crimes..rapes, murders, etc. should all be either solitary isolation for life or death penalty. I haven’t made up my mind on the drug issue — so I’m really not sure on the marijuana thing. I used to be against pot, but now I tend to really not see it as a big deal. There are way bigger things to deal with, so I wouldn’t mind de-criminalizing it.
also, obviously I am against public healthcare
(though, MAYBE some basic kind of essential treatment…)

It all started with the airports and TSA security procedures, but now it’s expanding to all types of transportation, including roadside checkpoints. http://www.naturalnews.com/033961_TSA_se…
We are being slowly conditioned to believe we need this security to feel safe. It’s like dropping a frog in hot boiling water, he will jump out but when heated slowly he will boil. That is what’s happening in America. We are slowly being conditioned to believe we need these drastic security measures to ensure security and feel safe from terrorist groups that may or may nor exist.
@Number 45: I’m not against countries protecting themselves but this has nothing to do with protection. That’s why countries have armies. Countries have TSA to instill fear into the people. Face it, the terrorists have won.

That’s the headline from the Toronto Star which is reporting that Marnina Norys, a 39-year-old Ph.D. student in Canada, was stopped by security and prohibited from wearing her necklace into the terminal.
Last week, security officials at Kelowna International Airport in British Columbia forced Norys to remove a silver necklace with a pendant in the shape of a Colt .45 pistol.
The 2-inch pendant apparently was deemed a security risk.
“When the woman pointed at the pendant I had no idea what she was talking about,” Norys told the Star. “They made me feel ashamed, as if I should have known that it was wrong to wear this type of jewelry.”
An airport security official told Norys was told that replica firearms are banned from planes and that she’d have to check her jewelry.
According to the Star, Dave Smith, director of screening operations with the Canadian Air Transport Authority (CATSA), issued a written apology to Norys and wrote that the screening officer “made a judgment call, rather than refer to CATSA’s standard operating procedures. In retrospect, your revolver-shaped pendant is not a threat and should have been allowed on board the aircraft.” –Roger Yu

Last night an idea popped into my head for a new story. I was already writing one but i think this one is better and more exciting. Please tell me what you think of the beginning and don’t be afraid to be a little mean if you don’t like it. I know how to handle criticism. Keep in mind I haven’t done ANY editing yet so there are probably a ton for spelling errors and what not. So please tell me what you think and don’t leave anything out. Sorry it is sort of long. Well here it is:
Depressed. Heavy hearted. Frightened. Relived. These are all words I would use to describe how I felt as I watched the Guard drag Tyler Newts into the back of the van and drive off. Tyler was special. He had a gift, a power. I had known about Tyler for a few months now. His power is Phasing.
A few months back I had seen Tyler walk through the wall of his house. It was late out and I had been taking out the trash when suddenly he comes through the wall. I saw everything through the hole in the fence that separated our houses. Apparently his parents had grounded him so he decided to sneak out. But it was that sort of carelessness that probably ended up get him caught. He should have known better. He should have been more careful. Everyone knows the punishment for having powers. Fist the Guard will come and take you away from your family and friends. Then they take you to the classification building to see how dangerous you are. Low threats (or level ones) are placed in a minimal security center eighty miles from civilization. The low threat center has the nicest commendations. It is where they place all the low level melters, readers, jumpers, and agers.
However Tyler will most likely be placed as a Medium threat. The medium threat detention center is for level two’s, ten miles from the low threat detention center, and is not nearly as nice. The apartment buildings are smaller and have a lot less furniture and other renovations. This is normally where they send the flyers, high level readers, and speeders. But it is still a lot nicer then the High threat detention center. In the high threat detention center the apartments are tiny with hardly anything in them and guards posted on every street corner. This is for the level threes. They have a high level security system and are over one hundred miles from any type of real civilization. Not including the other detention centers. This is where the people with any real dangerous powers are placed.
In my lifetime only three high level threats have been identified. One of them was a mind blaster, and another was an animator. The last one was not placed in high level security because he was a level four (the only known one in history) and was considered too dangerous even for that. He is apparently located in a top secret base somewhere in the mountains. Rumor has it the base was built just to hold this one guy. Some people say it doesn’t even exist and that they just killed the guy because he was so dangerous and other people say the guy himself doesn’t even exist. However most people that believe he is real generally say that he is too dangerous to even try and kill him. Apparently he has a weapon based power that can allow him to obtain and use any weapon he wants. I wasn’t sure what that meant so I asked my teacher and she said it basically means he could shoot bullets from his fingers, lasers from his eyes, grow knifes from his finger nails, and if he wanted to he could unleash the power of the atomic bomb and wipe out our entire civilization. This is why they supposedly keep him alive.
After the high level threats there are the Extremely Volatile Threats (or EVT) where they send every one that resists arrest from the Guard. It doesn’t matter what power level they are they still get placed in EVT. EVT has the highest security imaginable (behind that of the mountain base of course). Everyone has to share small tents that are subject to search at any hour of the day. Unlike the other encampment where you would get a warning, if you break a rule at EVT the guards will shoot you on the spot and then go about their day.
As I watch the van round the corner dragging Tyler to his doom I can’t help but feel another wave of relief at the fact that it was him and not me. Ever since I discovered my power a month ago I have feared that the Guard would just show up on my front step and arrest me. It all started on a Friday night when I accidently brushed agenst some kid on my way back from the movies. As soon as my hand brushed agenst the little girls skin I knew everything there was to know about her power. She had discovered her power a year ago, and she was a level one reader which meant she could tell what level other people’s powers were at. When our skin touched I felt a shudder run through me and I became momentarily paralyzed. That slight touch seemed to have the same effect on her as it had on me. She turned to look at me with a shocked and ho
Sorry it is so long. Please tell me what you think of it so far. Also if you have any ideas for titles that would be great, though titles are not as importent at this stage. Any feed back is welcome.

my answer:
In the early 1700s, Great Britain owned a lot of the land in North America. Military victories against the French and Native Americans helped them gain control from parts of Canada and lands east of the Mississippi River. The colonists were happy living under British rule, and viewed themselves as loyal British citizens. This attitude began to change in the later part of the century. England defeated France in the French and Indian War. This war had been very expensive for the British, and they decided to tax the colonies for the cost of their defense. Since England was defending the colonies by fighting this war, they felt the colonies were responsible for the costs. England started taxing the colonies it then led the colonists to adopt the slogan “no taxation without representation.” They were not against the paying of the taxes themselves, but rather the fact that they had no say in the making of the laws that made them have to pay these taxes in the first place.
they passed the Stamp Act in 1765, taxing paper documents, and the Townshend Act in 1767, taxing everyday goods such as tea. Money that was collected from taxes were used to let British troops stay in there homes in the colonies. Colonists did not support the presence of the troops, and did not support the taxes, either. They began boycotting, decreasing the amount of tax money the British were collecting. They argued that the king’s representatives, had no right to tax the colonists. On March 5, 1770, British troops open fire into a crowd of colonists in Boston. people said that the colonists were throwing snow balls at the troops. Whether they opened fire on their own will, or if someone gave the command to “fire”, is unknown. As a method of protesting the taxes and the treatment by the British troops, a group of colonists staged the Boston Tea Party. They dressed as Native Americans, boarded British ships at night, and threw crates of tea overboard into Boston Harbor.
The British were angry and passed the Coercive Acts, or referred to as the Intolerable Acts, in 1774. They also passed an act that ended any form of colonial self-government and declared martial law in Massachusetts. Under the Intolerable Acts: The charter of Massachusetts was changed and town meetings were restricted. Trials for British troops were ordered to be held in England, not the colonies. The port of Boston was closed, and the British demanded the price of the tea be repaid. Boston residents were forced to open their homes to British troops requiring shelter. As a result of all of this, the First Continental Congress was held in 1774 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Protests erupted around Massachusetts in which British court officials were blocked from entering courthouses. These types of events caused England to react by sending in more troops to attempt to keep order. Boston was under high security, but the remainder of the colony had withdrawn from British control.
Battle of Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775. No one knows for sure who fired the first shot. The colonists were attempting to push a tyrannical government out of power and establish a new one to protect individual liberties. In early 1776, Thomas Paine published a pamphlet entitled Common Sense. The document stated that the only way to solve the problems with England was to declare independence from England. By July 1776, British royal governmental officials had fled back to England to get away from the threats of violence and revolt existing around them. The colonies had simply become too dangerous for them. The Second Continental Congress, which had come together in 1775 after the start of the war, tried to get England to end the matter diplomatically, however the king was furious over the actions of the colonists and issued the Proclamation of Rebellion, requiring that action be taken against those in rebellion.

DIGG THIS
“Those who do not remember the past are condemned to relive it.”
~ George Santayana
On May 9, 2007, with little attention from the snoozing media, George W. Bush issued a “presidential directive” that allows him to assume control of the federal government following a “catastrophic emergency.”
Although the directive doesn’t specifically identify the types of emergencies that would qualify as “catastrophic,” it is vague enough to encompass “any incident, regardless of location, that results in extraordinary levels of mass casualties, damage, or disruption severely affecting the U.S. population, infrastructure, environment, economy, or government function.” As Matthew Rothschild of The Progressive noted, it could include “another 9/11, or another Katrina, or a major earthquake in California.” In fact, the language is so broad that it could include almost anything the public is led to believe might have a major impact on the country. Not surprisingly, the president’s order comes neatly packaged within the trappings of national security and safety.
This directive followed on the heels of a bill, which I have previously written about, that was pushed through Congress and which gave the president the power to declare martial law and establish a dictatorship. Under these provisions, the president can now use the military as a domestic police force in response to a natural disaster, disease outbreak, terrorist attack or any “other condition.”
In other words, the groundwork has been laid for the president of the United States to do away with our democracy, such as it is, and establish a dictatorship. The president, in effect, has become a power unto himself.
Having said that, I’m aware that I have opened myself up to accusations of paranoia and alarmist sentiment. However, if it is paranoid or alarmist to recognize the potential for abuse and urge Americans to guard against it, then so be it. It’s time to sound the alarm.
If we continue down this road, there can be no surprise about what awaits us at the end. After all, it is a tale that has been told time and again throughout history. For example, over 70 years ago, the citizens of another democratic world power elected a leader who promised to protect them from all dangers. In return for this protection, and under the auspice of fighting terrorism, he was given absolute power.
This leader went to great lengths to make his rise to power appear both legal and necessary, masterfully manipulating much of the citizenry and their government leaders. Unnerved by threats of domestic terrorism and foreign invaders, the people had little idea that the domestic turmoil of the times – such as street rioting and the fear of Communism taking over the country – was staged by the leader in an effort to create fear and later capitalize on it. In the ensuing months, this charismatic leader ushered in a series of legislative measures that suspended civil liberties and habeas corpus rights and empowered him as a dictator.
On March 23, 1933, the nation’s legislative body passed the Enabling Act, formally referred to as the “Law to Remedy the Distress of the People and the Nation,” which appeared benign and allowed the leader to pass laws by decree in times of emergency. What it succeeded in doing, however, was ensuring that the leader became a law unto himself. The leader’s name was Adolf Hitler. And the rest, as they say, is history.
Yet history has a way of repeating itself. Hitler’s rise to power should serve as a stark lesson to always be leery of granting any government leader sweeping powers. But we are clearly not heeding that lesson.
Americans are being lulled to sleep by the government’s constant warning that terror and destruction lurk around the corner. Color-coded terrorism threat levels and reports of alleged terrorism plots are constantly paraded before us. Indeed, since 9/11, the American people have been kept in a state of constant fear and expectation of yet another terrorist attack or, more subtly, another Katrina. Thus, while the recent spate of directives giving the U.S. president broad powers to supposedly ensure America’s safety and security from terrorism and natural disaster should serve as a warning, they have caused barely a ripple among the media or the masses.
President Bush has assured us that he will do whatever it takes to keep America safe, and Americans have blindly trusted him. How did he reward that trust? First, he claimed the authority to permanently imprison American citizens alleged to be so-called “enemy combatants.” Then he asserted his right to order government intelligence agencies to not only spy on America’s enemies but also on Americans. Now he has quietly and unobtrusively granted himself the power to take control of the government in the event of a vaguely defined national emergency.
James Madison, the father of our Constitution, said that Americans should take alarm at the first experiment upon their liberties. But this latest “presidential directive” is not the first attack on our liberties, and I dare say it will not be the last. We’d better open our eyes soon, lest we wake up one morning and find that we live under a new regime. Only, this time, it will be one of our own making.

Hello
I do not know if it is natural, or if it is some mental dysfunction; but it me it is natural.
The have the ability to oversee and have at least some control over what is either my possessions and belongings, or the types of things that revolve around us some how.
If that is taken from me, it would cost me my sanity literally. It would be a road that would either lead to suicide or accidental death.
I have no understanding of how to go about ‘things’ without being able to have some influence and understanding of what is happening. It would be like being in a situation where other people have to control your body, and you have to control theirs; just so that we can all go about our daily lives.
You would be insane after long enough of that.
There is a computer phenomenon coming called ‘the cloud’ which is where we do not have our own software, but online services use it. With it we will not be able to oversee and control our personal data security wise, in terms of our interactivity, in terms of our privacy threats and so much more; not to mention terrorist and natural disasters affecting our systems.
I had an occupational therapy assessment, and I thought that I would be pointing out what I felt I needed to use and why; but instead someone else came and assessed me.
I was unable to answer their questions, because of not being able to know that what they may get me and if it would do the job I wanted it to do; and I have very complex needs and they could never know what they all are, and I do not want to be forever rejecting the things that they offer. I have to be very careful about what I want.
The whole assessment broke down due to communication failure and so I have claimed nothing.
I remember a program about people that lived and shared all their possessions and they owned nothing personally. Such a system is something that I cannot subscribe to, as I would give up the will to live. For what assets could I control such that I felt I gained anything at all?
My ability to have friends and family would also break down; for there would be nothing worth talking about and doing with them; no one would have any assets to talk about and invest in.
There would be no giving and receiving, and so even the systems of doing things for everyone would collapse.
I remember someone making a phone call about something that involved me, they arranged things for me; but got irritated by me standing there while they done it. I simply told them “I am only monitoring what is happening, since what you are doing is having implications on me. That’s just common sense”.
They rejected this like I was unusual.
I had a problem with my computer upstairs (my second computer) which is being repaired right now.
I gave it to my father, so that it could be taken to someone he knows for it to be repaired. I have now waited for 3 weeks for it back.
Every time I go to get updates on this situation, I find that he behaves as though I am harassing him.
He cannot understand why I have a problem with not being able to somehow interact with this situation I have. It cannot involve talking to my father (as I said), it cannot involve talking to the man that is supposed to be repairing it, and there seems to be no other option either. I cannot understand how to interact with this situation in any other way.
How am I supposed to oversee this problem? How am I meant trust that I will get it back soon, without it somehow ending up at the bottom of a very long list of problems, and so waiting about 7 months to get it back? My Dad was supposed to be sorting out my digital television, and it took a year to do that; and I thought that I learned a valuable lesson from that, which is that I should not leave people to do things without overseeing things (but I did with this as it was not too important to me).
My Dad’s behavior has just sicked-up everything I have learnt.
Not only this, but other people cannot be trusted; they steel, tamper with things and vandalize things. Anyone with good intentions, they would fail where it came to misunderstanding my needs.
It is system that cannot work without input from me. I have to oversee and control what is rightfully mine.
Without this; I would feel vulnerable, exposed; extremely frustrated and would fall out with everyone. I would become everyone’s worst enemy, as they would be an obstruction.
I have no understanding of such a life style at all!
Am I abnormal for feeling this way? How do I deal with this? Why am I like this?
Most importantly, how do I avoid losing my mind with this problem?
I can’t understand how to live my life in this way; and don’t tell me I am not meant to live it, and everyone else is. I cannot see the point of that way of being.
It is completely counter-intuitive. I have every right to be able to oversee things, and I will fight for that right and I will die for that right.
